Here’s a very cool informative graphic from information in 1917 about food. It’s a century old food proverb that is still relevant today. It looks like the U.S. had some more sense back then, before being overrun by the Mcdonalds, Perdue, and Monsantos’ of the world. Thanks Samantha for this.
My beautiful wife Nicole (who happens to be eight months pregnant) wrote this and I thought it would be a perfect guest blog post for Try Living Organic. Sugary cravings are a serious issue in most people’s lives and there are real dangers when we eat blindly. Always check the ingredients list. Please take three minutes and read my wonderful wife Nicole’s post. -Paul Martinez
Let’s talk about CHOCOLATE!
As knowledge about the food we eat spreads from blogs like this one and others. People are waking up and even becoming activists for better and cleaner food for our families. Watch the video below to see what’s happening now: Continue reading
One thing in this infographic that really struck me was the statistic that 74.1% Of America is overweight! (not obese but overweight) I wonder if a similar statistic could be said of Americans who are “unhealthy.”
A recent Consumer Reports survey of 1,234 U.S. adults, had these results: 90% of American’s think they are unhealthy. However, in this same survey, 89.7 percent of Americans described their diet as “somewhat” (52.6 percent), “very” (31.5 percent), or “extremely” (5.6 percent) healthy. Something is not adding up. Education is key. Continue reading
It is with heartfelt sadness that I make this confession: Two weeks ago, I was at a friends house and I drank a… …. … Coca Cola.
Ok dramatics aside, I know its not the end of the world at all, but when you drink a soda, it could be even worse than you think. Check out the infograph below detailing the harmful effects of soda, and how it impacts your health. Continue reading
Things that make you say “DISGUSTING!”
Pink slime has had its fair share of people’s attention these past few months, and for good reason. (more on pink slime here) People are waking up to the reality that the companies creating, distributing, and processing their foods don’t have our health on the top of their list of priorities.
The more we look into these processed foods the worse it gets… my friend Adam (a health conscious fellow) had this to say as he browsed some online news sources:
So, I was just reading this and was sickened to discovered more things that has snuck into our food that I was unaware of. (1) Castoreum – The anal secretion of a beaver used to make some hard candy smell sweet and enhance the flavor of “natural” berry flavors (2) L-Cysteine – A dough conditioner made from human hair (3) Shellac, resin from a lac bug [aka. confectioner’s glaze] – Makes hard candy like jelly beans shiny (4) Cellulose [aka. wood pulp] – Used to thicken and wick moisture, in place of flour, in things like shredded cheese, salad dressing, and chocolate milk. Just…wow. Source Here.
And it goes on and on. Just search “In our food” in google and look at recent posts. I found this today, Headline: “There May Be Flame Retardants in Your Continue reading
There is no doubt you have been deceived.
If you have any type of health conscience, you may shop at such stores as Trader Joes, Whole Food’s Market, or some other upscale grocery store. As you walk up and down the aisles you will see some organic products, but mostly you’ll see hundreds of beautifully marketed non-organic products with labels advertising in huge letters: “NATURAL.” Do not be deceived… Continue reading
Great quote, and unfortunately in today’s age this is too terrifyingly true.
Did you know that nearly 75 percent of Americans are chronically dehydrated?
Proper hydration is essential to good health. Our bodies need to get nutrients to the cells, and waste out. Water is your body’s God-designed delivery system.
When it comes to water, the most important thing is that you’re getting enough and as for the best type of water to consume, remember , you want the water with the highest H20 content! Pretty simple right? Continue reading
Its official: A link between eating processed meat, such as bacon or sausages, and pancreatic cancer has been shown by researchers. This is just one of many studies linking processed meats to many different types of cancers additionally including colorectal cancer, leukemia. Reason number ONE: Nitrites & Nitrates!
HEY WAIT! Don’t just take my word for it:
- Read about BBC News’ take on it here.
- See “Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s” Good Medicine article here.
- Cancer Prevention Coalition talks about it too, here.
That’s just getting started just google “processed meat cancer” and you’ll be amazed at how many articles are just now being written while schools are still serving thousands of processed hotdogs and meat to our young ones everyday.
The main study was published in the British Journal of Cancer and they found that eating processed meats such as bacon, sausage, salami, pepperoni and hotdogs increases your risk for developing pancreatic cancer by 19 percent for every 50 grams of processed meat you consume. What’s crazy about that one sausage link constitutes about 50+ grams.
The World Cancer Research Fund has advised people to completely avoid processed meat. The nitrates used for preserving these types of meats convert into nitrosamines which has been linked to a number of cancers. It gets worse, processed meats with nitrites are shown to increase your risk of :
- Bladder cancer by 59 percent
- Colon cancer by 59 percent
- Stomach cancer by 38 percent
- Pancreatic Cancer by 67 percent (one of the worse cancers!)
BUT WHAT IF I LIKE HOTDOGS!?
Whats the solution?
