“Natural Food”, False Advertising and Chobani Yogurt.

natural-food-fake-advertisingBeware of the “Natural” label on foods!

Not only is it misleading but it is a down right lie and what I am about to share with you will make you furious!  The “Natural Effect” as some call it, is false advertising at its finest. Have you been hoodwinked, scammed, bamboozled? I will admit that I have, and its why I continue to share this type of information as far as I can.  I recently watched a video (see below) that discusses the topic of false advertising in “natural food’ labels in a humorous way while at the same time distressing you. The video points out that even though a food item is labeled “natural” or “100% natural” or “all-natural”  it can still contain GMOs, antibiotics, chemicals, hormones, harmful preservatives and HFCS.

Here’s one very REAL and RELEVANT example of “natural food” false advertising: Chobani yogurt.

Read what happened to my wife Nicole:

chobani-natural-food-false-advertisingI tend to be in a rush in the mornings and so I am guilty of buying the Chobani flip yogurt with blueberries, chia, hemp and walnuts for a quick grab breakfast. Sounds healthy right? That’s not even mentioning the claim on the label that it “contains only natural ingredients!” Even when looking at the list of ingredients a bit closer (I’m a pretty avid label reader!) it looks to be true. Unfortunately, its not! I recently ran across an article in Time magazine stating that Whole Foods is ridding its stores of Chobani brand yogurt due to the use of milk that contains GMOs. Yes, that is right! GMO containing milk. GAAAAAAAAG!  I just ate it this morning. Bamboozeled!  Needless to say I will have to get over my laziness and get up a few minutes earlier in order to make the same tasty breakfast with my raspberry Beyond Organic Amasai instead.  Lesson learned! The safest option if you are concerned about the harmful effects of GMOs, growth hormones, antibiotics etc…is to choose foods with the USDA Organic label!

"only natural ingredients"

Harmful Effects of Soda #INFOGRAPHIC

It is with heartfelt sadness that I make this confession: Two weeks ago, I was at a friends house and I drank a… …. … Coca Cola.

you-drank-sodaI know I know, I’m a “living organic” blogger and I drank a soda… AARRRGGGGHH!

Where’s My Kashi? (Kashi Cereal Scam)

..and here we thought we could trust Kashi…

Thanks Beth McShane: https://plus.google.com/110544122316042349582/posts

That is if you didn’t know that Kashi is owned by food giant Kellogg’s.

Just say NO to GMO!

Today, organic has gone mainstream, as the chart below shows.

In fact, companies like Pepsi, CocaCola, Nestle, Kellogg, Heinz, Cargill, Dean, Kraft,
Hershey, Cadbury, M&M Mars, ConAgra and General Mills “own” organic.

That’s not to say that all organics are bad. They aren’t, but “organic” has become
industrialized big business and is owned by companies that aren’t
typically known for their health emphasis.
You might call it “industrial organic.”

Check out my most recent post about “All Natural Foods” found in such stores as Trader Joes, Earth Fare, and Whole Foods and also my post about “Disgusting Ingredients found in your food

I recommend Beyond Organic, a company started by nutrition expert, Jordan Rubin. It is a new way to eat the very best organic foods and beverages out there.

Disgusting Ingredients Found in Our Foods

Things that make you say “DISGUSTING!”

Pink slime has had its fair share of people’s attention these past few months, and for good reason. (more on pink slime here) People are waking up to the reality that the companies creating, distributing, and processing their foods don’t have our health on the top of their list of priorities.

The more we look into these processed foods the worse it gets…  my friend Adam (a health conscious fellow) had this to say as he browsed some online news sources:

So, I was just reading this and was sickened to discovered more things that has snuck into our food that I was unaware of. (1) Castoreum – The anal secretion of a beaver used to make some hard candy smell sweet and enhance the flavor of “natural” berry flavors (2) L-Cysteine – A dough conditioner made from human hair (3) Shellac, resin from a lac bug [aka. confectioner’s glaze] – Makes hard candy like jelly beans shiny (4) Cellulose [aka. wood pulp] – Used to thicken and wick moisture, in place of flour, in things like shredded cheese, salad dressing, and chocolate milk. Just…wow. Source Here.

And it goes on and on. Just search “In our food” in google and look at recent posts. I found this today, Headline: “There May Be Flame Retardants in Your Continue reading

Anti-GMO Action Steps

How can I help rid the world of GMO Foods?

Here are some daily anti-gmo steps that you can do to truly make a difference:

  • Say no to Genetically Modified Foods!Vote with your dollars!  Make it a priority to buy non-GMO items at grocery stores, restaurants or online food stores.
  • Speak to grocery store managers to request that they stock more non-GMO items.  Store managers will likely be uninformed about GMOs, and this is your chance to educate them about the dangers of genetically modified foods.   Once they become aware and informed, they’ll be able to share the information with fellow managers and workers and with other shoppers.  When we take the time to help educate just one person, that information spreads out in a ripple effect!
  • While you’re eating out, ask servers and managers if they have non-GMO items available.  Again, this is your chance to educate others and help spread the word about GMOs! Continue reading
